Here at Beyond Beauty, Plymouth, waxing is an everyday occurance for our clients. But despite that, we’re often surprised by the amount of questions that seem to go unanswered, certainly by new clients. So with the Summer just around the corner (let's hope) here is everything you need to know about waxing.
How short/long should my hair be?
For the best results we would recommend the hair to be at least ¼ to ½ inch long. If your hair is longer than this, we’d suggest you shave and book in with us about 2 – 3 weeks later.
It is true that it may take a few appointments to achieve smooth skin, since the hair grows at different stages. Please do not shave in-between treatments as this will set the process back and stimulate hair growth again. If you’re away this Summer make sure you plan your treatments in advance.
How often should I have waxing treatment?
We’d suggest every 4-5 weeks for the best results. It’s essential that you have regular waxing in order to reduce the grip of hair follicles and make it easier over time to pull out.
What can I do before a waxing treatment?
- Do not take a bath or shower before waxing, this will make the hair softer and cause it to break easier. Meaning waxing is less effective.
- Make sure the area you want waxing is clean.
- Make sure the hair is the appropriate length, as discussed above.
What are the benefits of waxing?
Other than amazingly smooth skin! The more you wax the less hair grows back. While shaving crops the hair at the skin’s surface, waxing pulls it out by the root, so it grows back softer, finer, and thinner. Waxing is great for those who are tired of the hassle of shaving several times per week.
Will I get ingrown hairs?
There is a possibility of ingrown hairs. Your skin naturally hardens and thickens over the area that was waxed so it is important to keep that area gently exfoliated. Try to wear loose clothing over the following few days to allow the skin to breath and reduce moisture.
Can I shave in-between waxing treatments?
Please don’t! This results in more hair at your next appointment and disturbs the hair growth cycle.
Will waxing make my hair grow back thicker or darker?
No!! This is a misconception between waxing and shaving. When you shave it is cut off at the thick part of the hair, which is why you can feel stubble the next day. A properly waxed hair is removed from the root, and when the hair starts to grow back it is a new hair, very fine at the tip, so no stubble.
Is it painful?
Professional salon waxing is not like you home waxing kit. We apply a pre-waxing oil right, the oil was used to create a barrier between the skin and the wax, which actually means; less pain and less irritated skin afterwards. The temperature of the wax is also important, it will feel warm and soothing, not too hot and not too cold, also the type of wax that we use depends on your skin type/condition and the area you want to get waxed. Beyond Beauty are specialists in Lycon waxing, which is the very best product on the market. Designed to be virtually pain free and can be used on very short hairs.
